Are you tired of scrolling through endless duplicates in your Mac’s Photos library? Duplicates can take up valuable storage space and make it difficult to find the photos you need. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a step-by-step guide on how to delete duplicates in Photos on Mac. Whether you’re a casual photographer or a professional, this tutorial will help you organize your photo collection and free up space on your device.

Step 1: Open the Photos App

The first step to deleting duplicates in Photos on Mac is to open the app itself. You can find the Photos app on your dock or in the Applications folder. Once the app is open, you’ll see your entire photo library displayed on the left-hand side.

Step 2: Select the Album or Event

Next, select the album or event that contains the duplicates you want to delete. If you’re unsure which album or event to choose, you can start with your entire library. To select an album, simply click on it in the left-hand sidebar. To select an event, click on the calendar icon and then choose the event from the list.

Step 3: Use the Smart Album Feature

To make the process of finding duplicates easier, you can use the Smart Album feature. Click on the “New Smart Album” button in the bottom-left corner of the Photos app. In the “Name” field, give your new Smart Album a name, such as “Duplicates.” Then, click on the “+” button next to “Match Photos,” and choose “Any of the Following” from the dropdown menu. From there, select “Date,” “Name,” and “Rating,” and set the conditions to “Is” and “Duplicate.” This will create a Smart Album that automatically contains all the duplicate photos in your library.

Step 4: Review and Delete Duplicates

Once your Smart Album is created, it will automatically populate with duplicate photos. Scroll through the album and review each photo to ensure that it is indeed a duplicate. If you find a duplicate, click on it and then click the “Delete” button in the bottom-left corner of the Photos app. You can also select multiple photos and delete them at once by holding down the Command key while clicking on each photo.

Step 5: Confirm Deletion

After you’ve selected the duplicates you want to delete, a confirmation dialog will appear. Click “Delete” to remove the photos from your Mac’s Photos library. Keep in mind that this action is irreversible, so make sure you’ve reviewed your selections carefully.

Step 6: Empty the Trash

Once the duplicates are deleted, they will be moved to the Trash. To permanently delete the photos and free up space on your Mac, go to the Trash folder and click “Empty.” This will remove the photos from your Mac’s hard drive.

By following these simple steps, you can easily delete duplicates in Photos on Mac and keep your photo library organized. With a little bit of effort, you’ll have more space on your device and a more enjoyable photo experience.
